Risk based auditing (RBA) requires audit to be strategically and operationally linked to the business risk and assurance frameworks. Internal audit adds value by providing assurances that the risk management framework, processes, controls and outcomes are effective. This is a prime source of assurance for the Board to consider when reviewing and reporting on the effectiveness of the system of internal control.
The effectiveness and maturity of risk management within the organization will determine how internal audit approach their planning and assignments. Applying risk based internal auditing also enables internal audit to form an opinion on the adequacy of the assurance framework and reliability of assurance sources. New skills are required of internal auditors to ensure they implement RBA effectively.
This seminar workshop will help participants understand how to implement, manage and benefit from a risk-based auditing approach. Specifically, the training workshop will focus on the following objectives:
- Examine relationship between strategy, corporate governance, risk management, and controls
- Define key business processes and objectives
- Perform a risk assessment
- Develop a risk-based assurance plan
- Understand entity-wide controls and their relevance to the plan
- Plan a risk-based engagement
- RBA Execution, Communication and Monitoring
